Sismos Alerta for Windows

The same service as the app, on your computer. It runs in the background and, when there is an earthquake, brings its window to the front in full screen with a siren. Made for public offices, hospitals, clinics, schools and Protección Civil control rooms.

What it does

Alerts even when nobody is looking

When an earthquake occurs near your location, the window opens in full screen over every other program and a siren sounds.

Runs in the background

Starts with Windows and waits in the system tray next to the clock. If it was in the background, it returns there on its own after an alert: with “Entendido” or after 5 minutes.

Updates itself

Checks for new versions at start and every six hours, and only installs versions signed by us.

Step-by-step installation

Download the program
Tap the button above. The file is called sismos-alerta-1.0.7-setup.exe.
Open the file
Windows may show “Windows protected your PC”. Click “More info” and then “Run anyway”. The reason is explained below.
Install
Installation takes a few seconds and needs no administrator rights: it installs for your user only. If Microsoft WebView2 is missing, the installer downloads it (internet required).
Set up
Choose your state and city, allow Windows notifications and turn on “Iniciar al encender el computador”. Finally, tap “Iniciar simulacro” to hear the siren once.

Why does “Windows protected your PC” appear?

Windows shows this warning for new programs without a commercial publisher certificate. Sismos Alerta is a non-profit project and does not have that certificate yet. The warning does not mean the program is harmful. Updates are signed with our own key, and the program rejects any version without that signature. To check that the file is the original, compare its SHA-256 fingerprint:

Recommendations for institutions

Use a computer that is on all day, for example at reception, in the emergency room or in the control room.
Turn off sleep: Settings → System → Power & sleep → “Never” when plugged in.
Keep the speakers on and the volume up. With headphones plugged in, nobody in the room hears the siren.
Make sure “Do not disturb” (or “Focus assist”) does not silence notifications.
Run a drill once a month: Ajustes → Probar la alarma → “Iniciar simulacro”.

Good to know

An information service, not an official one. Official alerts come from FUNVISIS and Protección Civil.
Needs power and internet. Without a connection it cannot alert.
Today it reports earthquakes confirmed by the agencies (FUNVISIS, USGS, EMSC and others). Early warning, before the waves arrive, is being tested and will be switched on later.
No account needed. The location you choose is stored only on the computer.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a version for Mac or Linux?

Not yet. On any computer you can use the web version: sismos-venezuela.com/pwa. It alerts while the tab is open.

And on my phone?

Use the Sismos Venezuela app for Android or iPhone. You can use both at the same time.

How do I uninstall it?

Windows Settings → Apps → Sismos Alerta → Uninstall.

Does it use many resources?

No. In the background it keeps one connection to our server and uses almost no processor or memory.
