Both methods require an internet connection. If the network fails completely after a strong earthquake, no message can be sent! That is where the local SOS signal comes in: an intermittent beep and a flashing flashlight—independent of the network. This ensures you are heard by those looking for you.

When an earthquake occurs farther away—for example in Yaracuy, Falcón, Lara, Sucre, or other regions more than 60 kilometers (37 miles) away—the system can provide valuable extra seconds.
Depending on the distance, that may be 15 to 60 seconds—enough time to get out of bed, move away from windows, protect a child, or take cover.
This service is not an official warning system.
It complements information provided by FUNVISIS and Venezuela's Civil Protection, but it does not replace them. Alerts are based on publicly available seismic data and are intended to provide a few extra seconds to react.
