The shaking arrives

An earthquake sends two waves. The first is fast but weak. The second is slow but destructive. Between them lie seconds — and a warning fits into those seconds.

If an earthquake occurs very close to your location—typically within about 60 kilometers (37 miles)—the seismic waves may reach you before an alert can be delivered.

This is not a limitation of the technology. The internet is fast, but in these situations the distance is simply too short.

How it works

Detection We analyze seismic station data from the Caribbean and Colombia in real time. When multiple stations detect matching P-waves, the event is identified as an earthquake.
Phone network Your smartphone can detect ground motion, too. When many devices detect the same shaking at the same time, we identify an earthquake and warn people farther away before the stronger shaking arrives.
Alert Via push notification or Telegram. With your permission, the app can alert you even when your phone is in silent mode.

Your Android can become a seismometer

Venezuela has very few seismic stations, and in many parts of the country—especially in the east—there are almost none. Where there are no stations, nothing can be measured. And without measurements, there can be no earthquake early warning.

Building a nationwide network of seismic stations takes years and requires significant investment. Millions of Android phones, however, are already spread across the country and can start helping today.

Am I being tracked?

No.

The motion sensor has no access to your microphone, camera, or conversations.

Before any data is sent, your location is rounded to about one kilometer, and your device identifier changes automatically every day. This makes it impossible to determine who you are or where you live.

Will it drain my battery?

No.

The system remains almost completely idle most of the time. It only sends data when it detects shaking that could indicate an earthquake.

You can also enable or disable the feature at any time with a single tap.

Does my phone really make a difference?

Yes.

A single phone cannot confirm an earthquake. But every device is part of a larger network. When many phones detect the same shaking at the same time, the event can be confirmed.

Your phone could be the one that makes the confirmation possible and triggers an early warning in time.

Both methods require an internet connection. If the network fails completely after a strong earthquake, no message can be sent! That is where the local SOS signal comes in: an intermittent beep and a flashing flashlight—independent of the network. This ensures you are heard by those looking for you.

What this system cannot do

We believe it's better to explain the system's limitations openly than to create false expectations. Earthquake early warning can save lives—but it cannot overcome the laws of physics.

Near the epicentre there is no margin

If an earthquake occurs very close to your location—typically within about 60 kilometers (37 miles)—the seismic waves may reach you before an alert can be delivered.

This is not a limitation of the technology. The internet is fast, but in these situations the distance is simply too short.

Early warning has its limits

For this reason, an earthquake just off the coast of La Guaira or Caracas may not be detected early enough to issue a warning.

This limitation applies to every earthquake early warning system, regardless of who operates it.

Where the system makes the biggest difference

When an earthquake occurs farther away—for example in Yaracuy, Falcón, Lara, Sucre, or other regions more than 60 kilometers (37 miles) away—the system can provide valuable extra seconds.

Depending on the distance, that may be 15 to 60 seconds—enough time to get out of bed, move away from windows, protect a child, or take cover.

A complement, not a replacement

This service is not an official warning system.

It complements information provided by FUNVISIS and Venezuela's Civil Protection, but it does not replace them. Alerts are based on publicly available seismic data and are intended to provide a few extra seconds to react.

In an emergency, always follow the instructions of the responsible authorities.

Who is behind this

My name is Martin Börner. I am a software developer from Germany. I sell supplementary alerting software to volunteer fire brigades — alarm systems, emergency infrastructure.

In June 2026, two magnitude-7 earthquakes shook Venezuela. I saw a country with excellent seismologists and a population without a warning system. And I saw that I had the tools to close that gap.

I earn nothing from this. No ads, no business model, no data sales. I do it because I want to help the people of Venezuela — and because fifteen seconds of warning are worth more than anything I could charge for it.
